Our Coordinator, Lois Makoid, will lead a workshop on 'Crystal Ball Photography' via Zoom. She will review what Crystal ball or Lens ball photography is, where to purchase your ball, camera settings and how to have fun.
We will be scheduling a Crystal Ball outing in a few months to give members a chance to get their ball(s) and have daylight hours to shoot.
Join us for what will be a spectacular presentation by John Barclay.
Public interest in the Northern Lights is at an all time high. The dazzling, displays that light up the night sky capture the imagination and instill a sense of excitement for photographers everywhere.
We've invited dedicated aurora chaser and photographer Steve Luther to share his expertise on capturing the Aurora, as well as insights on determining when the Northern Lights may be visible in our area, when we should prepare to chase, and the best resources to use (they're different from what you may have heard).
Check out Steve's Aurora portfolio here!
Steve will provide information specific to the Carolinas, including challenges for this part of the country and how to overcome them. He'll also give a brief overview of space weather including what causes Aurora and the current solar cycle. You’ll absolutely come away with new knowledge, accurate information and confidence to “capture the elusive” Aurora Borealis here at home or across the planet!
Clouds obscured our attempts in July to capture the Milky Way on the Parkway, so we're trying again! Astronomical conditions will be favorable on this date. It's one day before a new moon and the galactic center will be visible beginning at around 9:30pm. Like last time, we're partnering with our friends from the Foothills South Region. We'll meet up at the Price Lake overlook (near the spillway) at 7:30pm for the sunset, then stick around for the Milky Way to appear. After that, we'll head to the Viaduct and Wilson Creek Overlook for additional views. You'll need a fast wide angle lens and a sturdy tripod for long exposures. A remote trigger is also recommended, though using your camera's self-timer function is also an option. Also remember to bring a red-light headlamp or flashlight for working in the dark and preserving everyone's night-vision. For more techniques and tips, check out the excellent Milky Way Photography presentation Silvana Della Camera gave to our region recently. You can find it here. Contact foothills-north-coordinator@cnpa.org for additional info.
Professional photographer, Alex Eisengart, will present 'How to Take Better Bird Images in the Field,' via Zoom. Come on after 6:30 PM for social time. https://www.alextphotography.com/
High Country photographer Lisa Wilmoth has devoted herself to maximizing the power of Lightroom in her post-processing work. Now, she will share her extensive knowledge with the rest of us who sometimes struggle with the program's many features and menus.
If you're a Lightroom user, don't miss this opportunity to truly "up you game!"
Intentional Camera Movement can give your photos a surreal look. If you've ever wondered how to create some of these stunning images, or you want to take your skill to the next level, be sure to join us.
Riverbanks Zoo/Botanical GardenAdmission is $27
Pro photographer, Vinny Colucci will come to present Pro Approach & Techniques for Wildlife and Landscape Photography. This is an in-person meeting.
Having your photographs critiqued, or watching other photos critiqued by a professional photographer can be a great way to improve your photography skills. Join us as Jeff Miller reviews select photos on what works and things to consider when you are looking through your own lens.
Pro photographer, Shawn Carey, will present Tanzania: A Photographers Journey via Zoom.
Join us as three of our members showcase their portfolios. This will not only allow you to see their great work but will allow you to get to know them and their interests better.
