Outer Banks Region

About

Welcome to the Outer Banks Region of the Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association.

The CNPA Outer Banks Region serves the northeastern counties of North Carolina. No matter what season of the year it is, this area offers a treasure trove of venues for a nature photographer, with its hundreds of miles of shoreline and beachscapes, intriguing swamps and wetlands, botanical gardens, phenomenal night skies, and wildlife refuges and sanctuaries that are home to numerous species of birds and migratory waterfowl, black bear, wild horses, and other fascinating animals and insects.

Formed in 2008, the Outer Banks Region of CNPA is a group of individuals who have a passion for nature photography that come together to share and learn from one another, as well as have some fun while we do.

Our goals are to:

  • Promote nature photography in the Carolinas
  • Create an awareness and appreciation for the area’s natural beauty
  • Educate others interested in nature and wildlife photography.

Join Us:

Whether you are a novice or a highly experienced nature photographer, we would welcome you joining us. For the beginner, this is a great forum for you to learn and develop nature photography skills. For the seasoned photographer, this is a great setting to share your knowledge and experiences with people who would truly be interested, as well as be a place for you to perhaps learn some new things.

Monthly Meetings:

The Outer Banks Region meets the 2nd Monday of each month at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 4212 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC 27959. The entrance is around the Church on the side facing the bypass. When you pull around look for the double doors marked office. When you enter the building turn left and the meeting room should be there on your left.

At each monthly meeting, we have a featured program or speaker. These typically involve a member sharing something about their photography experiences, a presentation about post processing software and workflow, discussion about some aspect of photography equipment, or a professional photographer sharing their tips and techniques. In addition, attending members share select photographs they have taken on outings.

Monthly Outings/Field Trips:

We also conduct monthly photo shoots at various places in and around our Region to photograph wildlife, nature, birds, flowers, macro and landscapes. These outings are typically scheduled for the Saturday immediately following the monthly meeting.
